Lisa J. Ballou, B.A., Ph.C. - Recreational Therapist/Fitness Coach
Lisa J. Ballou is a certified yoga instructor and Ironman triathlete. She is a business owner, having founded Expansion Yoga, an independent yoga studio, and well at Tri Turtle Tri and Tri Turtle Wellness, a coaching and fitness training program, through which she helps clients construct customized, healthy, fitness plans to augment and reach their wellness goals. She holds a Bachelor's degree in both English and Philosophy from Florida State University and a Master’s Degree and Ph.C. from the University of Washington. It was her love of triathlons and the mental and physical rewards of doing what seems impossible that motivated her transition from the academic world to the wellness world.
Lisa is a certified Body Mind Bridge practitioner and believes in the therapeutic interconnection between the physical body and the emotional self. She has witnessed, firsthand, the transformative effect of personalized training on first time athletes, most of whom then choose to compete in their first sprint triathlons, and many of whom were working with depression, relationship and life losses, physical health conditions, and PTSD. Lisa has coached over 500 men, women, and youth from first time swimmers to seasoned athletes in the preparation and completion of a triathlon. She leans into classic training methods as well as breathing work and yoga sequences to promote full body-mind wellness. Lisa has participated in 13 Ironman distance Triathlons and countless sprint level courses. She is an enthusiastic parent, accomplished teacher and mentor, beachcomber, cyclist, horse lover, and avid reader. Lisa encourages each client to focus on the first step, often saying to herself, “The miracle isn’t that I finished, the miracle is that I began.”
